JINSIA
JINSIA, is a community empowerment project.
Jinsia is a Swahili word which means gender or literally “a type of something often related to identity”. We chose this name as this is a project where we empower ourselves and our communities, our genders and our individual as well as collective identities.
This is a project by and for trans* inter* non-binary, gender-non-conforming, two-spirit and queer people. The focus lies on people affected intersectionally by racism and additional discriminations. Through multiple discrimination, BIPOC trans*, inter* and queer people can experience social exclusion on a daily basis and thus belong to the most vulnerable groups.
We create a space and meeting place where BIPOC trans*, inter* and queer people can break through their isolation and form communities.
A space where we can come together, read a book, have a tea, exchange experiences and knowledge. A space where we can empower each other, grow through our conflicts and collectively find solution and strategies for our every day struggles.
